I had a crippling maths anxiety associated with high-stakes examination. I had all but finished my university degree without incident. However, the last hurdle to attaining my degree was a maths exam. Without successfully passing this exam, all the work I had put into studying and the hopes for my potentially exciting future career would be wasted. The problem wasn't my ability to understand the maths so much as my anxiety related to sitting the exam. This anxiety seemed irrational, but I couldn't control it. I couldn't study effectively because my mental space was filled with worry. All of this stress was affecting my family and negatively impacting my self-confidence. September 2023, at my wit's end, I approached Rebecca, as she had worked very successfully with my daughter a few years earlier. Because I live in a quite remote regional area, and because of a tight timeframe, I agreed to our meetings being via Zoom. This worked well as I could relax in a familiar and comfortable environment, and Zoom removed the tyranny of distance, meaning I didn't have to travel for hours to get to an appointment. Though I was initially sceptical, Zoom made it feel like I had Rebecca in the room with me. I sat my exam at the beginning of November 2023. The fear I once experienced leading up to and during the exam was replaced with a mixture of adventure and a sense of tackling an exciting challenge. This is a huge transformation for me and an approach I hope to imitate in other areas of my life moving forward. I have since received my exam results, and not only did I pass easily, but I have secured employment for the coming year because of this achievement. I honestly believe that my fear would have prevented me from achieving my goals. Rebecca's therapy via Zoom has been life-changing for me. She changed my perspective and helped me understand where my anxiety was stemming from and how to control it. I started seeing Rebecca on Friday 12 November to assist me with overcoming my fear of travelling in a car. Previous visits to a range of professionals, including a psychologist, had not provided any relief.
